"Integration of knowledge and sciences of knowing" best represents the Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transportation Engineering (DIME), embodying the spirit with which it combines research, dissemination and transfer of technologies, teaching, and training.
DIME updates the long tradition of industrial engineering and aims to synthesize the needs of businesses and society with the opportunities offered by technological evolution. The Department is characterized by strong multidisciplinarity in the fields of Energy, Management Engineering, Transportation, and Applied Mathematical Models thanks to:
- Areas of absolute excellence in basic and applied research
- International research and training agreements with leading universities and centers
- Presence in the locations of Genoa, Savona, and La Spezia
- High-quality laboratories
- Established collaborations with local entities and institutions
- Research, innovation, and technology transfer activities towards the territory
DIME is equally committed to training highly specialized professionals and actively contributes to the development of that human capital which today represents the main tool to accompany and support the transformations required by industrial and economic competition.
The Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transportation Engineering was established in 2012, but its origins are much older and date back to the tradition of studies in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering, in the cultural heritage of the Institutes of Technical Physics, Mechanical Plants and Technologies, Applied Mechanics to Machines, Machines, Mathematics for Engineering, and Transportation, active in the Faculty of Engineering of Genoa since the 1950s. The excellence of the past has been decisive in synergistically orienting research and teaching.
